Ok, I'm new to the forum (hi all) I've got the same low current at idle as most do and I"ve been thinking of doing the alternator swap. I know that the alt gage will need to be bypassed with all of the options.....I've got an LA and RB engines with PS and A/C. And I'd like to do the easy way with a complete bolt in option for both.

From what I've read there are 3 option:
1.GM alternator swap, most say to fab your own brackets but there is someone that list a direct bolt in, one wire hookup....does anyone know what alternator it is? (off of what car) (2nd least liked idea)

2. Another post on a different site the guy claimed that a Denso from a '89 360 pickup will bolt in.. external regulator just higer amps at idle and up, comes with 2 groove pulley......has anyone tried this????

3 Toyota alternator kit from mancini and others offers a complete bolt in kit.....1 groove pulley, no p/s, no a/c ......least liked optiion.

What's been done out there?

Welcome.. Sorry, I don't have any advice on the alt swap (my stock one always worked fine).. I remember at least one person here mentioning the GM alt swap, hopefully they'll chime in with some tips for you. Good luck with your project.

You can find a very small v groove pulley diameter and have the alternator built up to 110amps,this will spin faster at idle and make more amps if its needed.Mrmopartech
